Running with my Dog     (finalist Dobell Drawing Prize 2025)

I made this drawing by running. I ran the outline of the image, recording with a drone camera about 700m above. I then used software to track my path onto the video footage, resulting in the image you see.

It represents a literal embodiment of the act of drawing. I didn't use GPS or anything other than my innate sense of space. I planned the image in my mind before I ran it, but I depended entirely on my own sense of direction to express the picture I wanted to make.

This image is ephemeral, the only trace of it is the digital record that I have created. With this drawing practice I am trying to explore a feeling of complete uncertainty about the outcome of my work, to consider my relationship with the ground I move on and the space in which I move, and create something that is simply expressed and lacking in artifice.
